かこさんは東大工学部を出られたあと、昭和電工に勤務の傍ら絵本を描き始め、のちにフリーとなり多彩な創作活動をされました。博士号（工学）をお持ちで、技術士（化学）でもありました。
絵本のなかには「かわ」「たいふう」といった科学を題材にしたものがあります。こうした絵本によって、どれほどの子供たちが科学に興味を持ったことでしょう。まさに科学コミュニケーターでした。私の手元にも何冊もかこさんの本があります。

科研費を巡って論争が起きています。
科研費を含めて、公的資金の適正使用は当然のことで、疑義がある場合は指摘するのは当然です。研究内容についても、データの扱い方の不備等があれば指摘すべきです。
ただ、研究者の主義主張が現政権と相容れない（反日）ということが論争の原因だとしたら、あまり好ましいものではないと思いますし、与党の政治家が介入することも好ましいものではありません。
できれば研究費の使途はどうあるべきかということを建設的に議論していただけたらと思います。
